In 1994, the Labour Court rejected AMALGAMATED ENGINEERING AND ELECTRICAL UNION's appeal over a fitter's shift-work claim at LEO LABORATORIES LIMITED, upholding the Rights Commissioner's recommendation that the claim fail. The recommendation was dated 13 September 1994. The union said the worker was the company's most senior fitter, had sought shift work for three years and had lost an estimated £6,000 per annum. The company said his area did not operate shifts, other fitters had longer service and he had earned significant overtime. It also said moving him would displace another fitter who needed specialised training. The Court noted that the company would deal equitably with the worker's transfer and shift application.
