Labour Court recommends union accept three redundancies with four weeks’ pay per year of service

In 1994, the Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept the redundancies of three domestic workers at Traveller Families’ Care. The recommendation, dated 14 July 1994, also called for the organisation to increase its severance offer to four weeks’ pay per year of service. The dispute concerned planned changes at Trudder House in Co Wicklow. The union argued that the workers’ duties would continue and that they had not been offered training for other work. Traveller Families’ Care said the changes would benefit the children and that funding limited its severance offer. The Court found the organisation’s position was not unreasonable.
