In 1994, the Labour Court recommended that the Amalgamated Engineering And Electrical Union accept A Guinness and Sons and Co.'s offer in a dispute about craft grades and restructuring under the Continuous Competitiveness Plan. The recommendation was signed on 3 February 1994. The union said workers had accepted changes to skills and work practices expecting a new pay structure, and sought new technical grades and regrading. The company said a new structure required agreement across worker categories and that existing payments and arrangements were reasonable. The Court did not recommend conceding the union's claim in the context of the plan; it said the parties should revisit the issue during Plan 2000 discussions.
