In 1994, the Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Adt Allied Security Limited (Adt)’s offer in a pay dispute involving three security guards at the Gypsum Plant in Kingscourt, Co Cavan. The recommendation was signed on 27 January 1994. The union sought £5 an hour plus allowances after the guards took on weigh-bridge duties, including operating the computerised system during 12-hour shifts and preparing detailed reports. ADT said the extra work was normal for security guards and its offer was reasonable under Clause 3 of the P.E.S.P. The Court found the claim covered by that agreement and the offer reasonable.
