In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Raleigh (Ireland) Limited meet the Phase 3 terms of the P.E.S.P., which provided for a 3.75% basic-pay increase for 22 workers from 1 April. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, Electronics and Administration Branches, said the workers were entitled to the increase. The company said losses and difficult trading conditions meant it could not afford the annual £27,000 cost. The Court found the company had an obligation to meet the agreement's terms and recommended that the company and union urgently agree arrangements for payment, taking account of current difficulties. The recommendation was signed on 15 November 1993.
