Labour Court rejects ADM workers’ pay-parity claim

The Labour Court recommended against a claim by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union for pay parity with Pfizer Chemical Corporation for workers transferred to Archer Daniels Midland (Adm). The recommendation was dated 28 September 1993. The union sought terms similar to Pfizer’s 1992–93 wage agreement, including a £400 lump sum and pension improvements. ADM argued that its pay structure reflected a different commercial environment. The Court found the transfer documents guaranteed existing pay and conditions at the time of the transfer but did not promise future parity. It said ADM’s pay and conditions were not directly linked to Pfizer’s and found no grounds to recommend the claim.
