In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Great Southern Hotel, Killarney and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union defer a dispute over double-time pay for Sunday work until the Programme for Economic and Social Progress expired. The recommendation was dated 23 September. The union said a 1979 agreement entitled all workers to double-time for Sunday work and argued that the payment had previously applied across worker categories. The company said the entitlement applied only to permanent workers. The Court found the claim was debarred under the programme, but considered it had some merit and recommended raising it after the programme expired.
