In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that the redundancy terms offered by Cavan Mineral Water Company Limited be accepted after reviewing the company’s accounts and correspondence from financial institutions. The recommendation was dated 6 September 1993. The company had announced the closure of its bottling line, affecting eight jobs, and said it could not pay more than statutory redundancy entitlements. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought six weeks’ pay per year of service, plus statutory entitlements. The Court also recommended that the union defer its claims under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress until July 1994, when the situation should be reviewed.
