Labour Court recommends Ormond Printing use four-colour staffing on new press

The Labour Court recommended that Ormond Printing Company Limited staff its new six-colour machine on the same basis as its four-colour machine: two printers, with an assistant involved when needed. The recommendation was dated 26 July 1993. The dispute arose after storm damage destroyed three printing machines and the company obtained a six-colour replacement. The Graphical, Paper And Media Union sought two printers and two assistants, while the company said two printers could operate the modern press and that extra staffing would increase costs. The Court noted that the six-colour machine had been selected because it was available after the damage. It recommended that the parties discuss assistant staffing if the press had to operate beyond four-colour capacity.
