The Labour Court recommended that Killeen Corrugated Products Limited’s promotion appointment remain in place after a dispute over selection criteria. The recommendation was dated 17 May 1993. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, the Automobile General Engineering Mechanical Operatives Union and the Marine Port and General Workers Union argued that the more senior applicant should have been promoted. The Court said suitability needed greater weight as machinery became more complex and production standards rose, and urged the parties to agree how to change the existing practice. It noted that the other applicant had since been trained and was receiving the same pay grade and conditions.
