In 1993, the Labour Court did not recommend acceptance of a seasonal worker’s claim for further compensation or consideration after Irish Ferries Limited said he would be considered for a vacancy the following season under its normal selection criteria. The recommendation was signed on 15 April 1993. The worker said he was not rehired after recovering from an accident, although less experienced workers were employed, and that he lost seven weeks’ work. Irish Ferries said no work was available and seasonal staffing depended on market conditions.
