In 1993, the Labour Court recommended one-off payments for four general operatives redeployed after Tipperary (N.R.) County Council closed its Central Quarry in Nenagh. The recommendation was dated 8 February 1993. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought compensation for lost overtime and reduced basic rates, as well as retention of existing rates. The Council said it needed flexibility to redeploy workers and faced financial constraints. The Court recommended £1,200 each for General Operatives Nos. 1, 3 and 4 and £500 for No. 2, citing the combined impact on pay rates and overtime. It did not recommend compensation for the acting overseer, who had returned to his former role, or red-circling for the general operatives.
