In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Clear-Modes Limited pay a sales assistant four weeks’ pay in compensation after finding she should not have been dismissed. The recommendation was dated 8 February 1993. The worker took money from the day’s takings after her August wages were not deposited on time, then told a company director what she had done. She was dismissed that afternoon. The company did not attend the hearing. The Court said the worker had acted unwisely, but noted that the company had twice failed to pay her salary on time and that she had suffered embarrassment.
