Labour Court declines union claim for metrication payment at Cantrell and Cochrane

In 1992, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for an incentive payment when Cantrell And Cochrane (Dublin) Limited introduced metrication. The recommendation was signed on 7 January 1992. The union said workers expected an agreement after negotiations began in 1982 and sought compensation. The company argued that metrication would simplify work, would not increase productivity, and had been introduced elsewhere without compensation. The Court found no grounds to concede the union’s claim.
