In 1991, the Labour Court did not recommend that Wexford County Council concede the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for retrospective driving allowance. The recommendation was signed on 30 September 1991. The union sought arrears dating back to 1981, or a lump-sum payment, for seven drivers whose higher rate of pay had been conceded from 1990. The Council said the existing arrangements had been accepted by both sides and that retrospective payments would add expense amid financial constraints.
