In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that running adjustments to a new electronic bottle-making machine at Irish Glass Bottle Company Limited be treated as a normal production function. The recommendation was signed on 25 September 1991. National Engineering And Electrical Trade Union (N.E.E.T.U.) argued that fitters should retain the adjustment work and receive training in the new technology. The company argued that terminal adjustments during production properly belonged to production workers. The Court found the fitters were not being displaced and recommended that the running adjustment be accepted.
