In 1991, the Labour Court recommended against the Irish Distributive And Administrative Trade Union's claim for a computer-operating allowance at Penneys Limited. The recommendation was signed on 25 September 1991. The union said clerical staff did work similar to key-punch operators, who received an allowance. The company said computer operation had become part of normal office work and that staff already received a bonus for accepting and operating new systems. The Court found no grounds to concede the claim.
