In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Waltons Musical Instrument Galeries Limited pay four workers three weeks’ pay per year of service, in addition to statutory redundancy entitlements. The recommendation was signed on 29 August 1991. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought eight weeks’ pay per year after the company said it would close its Dun Laoghaire branch following sustained losses. Waltons had offered one week’s pay per year on top of statutory entitlements.
