In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union agree to Archer Daniel Midland Company (A.D.M.) Ringaskiddy’s plan to use an outside security contractor. The recommendation was dated 23 August 1991. The union argued that transferred workers could lose access to premium security posts. The company said its policy was to contract specialist services and that no employees were working in security roles. It also cited a substantial loss in the first six months of 1991 and a planned 40% reduction in management staff.
