In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that nurse tutors’ pay, conditions, study leave and annual leave be considered as part of the wider nursing review. It also recommended that hospitals deal directly with the Irish Nurses Organisation’s claim to abolish grade 3 posts without further delay. The recommendation was dated 9 August 1991. The union had sought revised grading, pay parity with third-level teachers, study leave and increased annual leave for nurse tutors and clinical teachers employed in Public Voluntary Hospitals. The Court found no valid case for determining their pay and conditions separately or setting pay comparisons with groups outside nursing.
