In 1991, the Labour Court declined to recommend four new District Officer posts for Dun Laoghaire Corporation’s fire brigade. It recommended that the parties resume local negotiations on a revised command structure. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought the posts for a brigade with 75 staff and one fire station. The claim dated back to 1977; earlier talks led to an offer of two Second Officer posts, but no appointments followed competitions in 1987. The recommendation was signed on 13 May 1991.
