Labour Court rejects Manufacturing Science Finance pension claim

The Labour Court rejected Manufacturing Science Finance’s claim for additional pension benefits for a branch manager who lost accrued pension rights when he joined Educational Building Society. The Society said the back-pension scheme covered managers recruited for business-development work and cited costs of £56,000 to it and £24,500 to the worker. It estimated extending the scheme to five other managers would cost £340,000. The Court found the basis for the enhanced-pension claim invalid and did not recommend conceding it. The recommendation was dated 6 March 1991.
