In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Guinness Ireland Limited, Arthur Guinness Son and Company (Dublin) Limited and Guinness Group Sales (Ireland) Limited pay a 3% increase from 6 October 1990 under the Continuing Competitiveness Plan. The Court found Guinness Ireland Limited was not in breach of the agreement. Guinness Staff Association said the increase was due to members who had not taken voluntary parting terms. The companies said payment depended on whether new pay structures were introduced and did not apply to all members. The Court said staff who accepted new structures could expect an increase of at least 3%, though it need not be a direct benefit within the new structure. The recommendation was signed on 21 February 1991.
