In 1991, the Labour Court recommended a compromise on summer holidays between Gardeur Ireland Limited and the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers Union. It recommended a 1991 leave period from 29 July to 9 August, amounting to nine working days, and that from 1992 onward the union accept the company’s right to set annual leave between 1 June and 31 August. The union sought holidays in July or August, preferably the first two weeks of August. The company said summer was its peak production and demand period and it needed to remain open from mid-June. The recommendation was signed on 12 February 1991.
