Labour Court backs Bristol-Myers Squibb on Swords pilot-plant staffing

By Rory Hanlon

Historic decision · Decision date:

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Bristol-Myers Squibb Company's decision to return to its pre-1987 pilot-plant staffing arrangement. The recommendation was signed on 11 February 1991. The union objected to graduates doing work it considered appropriate for chemical process operators and sought corresponding grading. The company said pilot-plant work required staff to cover both plant and laboratory duties, and undertook not to extend the replacement of chemical process operators beyond the pilot plant.
