Labour Court recommends extra leave for 12 domestic workers

In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Our Lady's Hospital concede an extra day’s leave for 12 domestic workers who worked on the Monday after St Patrick’s Day 1990. The Court did not recommend concession of the union’s claim for an additional day’s pay based on workload. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the workers were unfairly treated because they worked on Monday, 19 March, after the public holiday fell on a Saturday. Our Lady's Hospital said it had met its public-holiday obligations and that Monday was a normal working day with reduced activity. The recommendation was signed on 14 January 1991.
