In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Braun Ireland Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume discussions on the union's proposals for a job-evaluation system. It said an acceptable system should be in place by 31 January 1991 and then used to address the setters' pay claim. The recommendation was signed on 27 September 1990. The union sought a higher rate for setters, saying their work was not adequately covered by the existing industrial evaluation system. The company said pay was determined by agreed job-evaluation systems and said it was prepared to discuss the union's proposals.
