In 1990, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim to maintain a pay relativity agreement with Comhlucht Siuicre Eireann Teo. The recommendation was signed on 31 August 1990. The union said the 1980 agreement remained in force and should be honoured. The company argued it had not been implemented since 1983 and that special increases could raise costs and threaten competitiveness. The Court said the agreement had been effectively inoperative for years and was no longer a valid basis for the claim.
