The Labour Court recommended that the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept Amalgamated Wholesalers Limited’s offer of redeployment, with compensation increased to £10,000. The recommendation was signed on 31 August 1990. The dispute concerned a transport manager and assistant warehouse manager whose post was eliminated in a warehouse development plan. The union argued that the proposed warehouse cleaner role was unsuitable and sought better compensation. The company said it had no other suitable alternative role and that the worker lacked the computer skills needed for the new distribution manager post. The Court noted the worker’s wish to remain employed and the limited scope for redeployment before recommending the company’s offer with the higher compensation.
