Labour Court recommends 7-Eleven franchise recognise union

In 1990, the Labour Court recommended that Local Stores Trading Limited (trading as 7-Eleven) recognise the Irish Distributive And Administrative Trade Union and negotiate with it on matters affecting shop staff. The recommendation was signed on 18 July 1990. The union sought recognition and negotiations on staff terms, including pay, hours, leave, breaks, security and work location. It alleged an anti-union policy and said some conditions were illegal and exploitative. The company did not attend the hearing but had sent a written submission. The Court said the union represented a considerable number of staff and recommended negotiations on matters then at issue and those arising later.
