Labour Court recommends Conoco grant union’s 5% bonus claim

The Labour Court recommended that Conoco Ireland Limited concede the Services Industrial Professional And Technical Union’s claim for a 5% bonus for about 32 clerical and administrative workers. The recommendation was signed on 19 April 1990. The union argued that bonuses formed part of salary packages at comparator companies. Conoco said it had agreed to examine the claim, not to offer a bonus, and argued that added costs would hurt its low-price position. The Court found comparator firms’ bonus elements should be considered in reaching a settlement and recommended concession of the claim.
