In 1989, the Labour Court recommended changes to overtime and Saturday cattle slaughtering at Anglo Irish Beef Processors Limited's Grange Meats plant near Nenagh. The recommendation was signed on 11 December 1989. The company sought more flexibility for overtime and Saturday killing, while the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union sought better pay and conditions in return. The Court recommended up to one and a quarter hours' overtime on four nights a week as required, an option for Saturday killing with the bonus lump sum increased to £150, and a trial of piecework. It also urged the company and union to address the poor industrial relations climate noted at the hearing.
