In 1989, the Labour Court found that a worker was unfairly dismissed by Top Security Limited. In its recommendation signed on 11 December 1989, it said he should receive one week’s pay in lieu of notice, one month’s pay as compensation and a good conduct reference. The worker, a watchman at the Irish Press, was dismissed after Top Security alleged he had left his post ten minutes early. He said he left at 12.35am, rather than the alleged 12.20am, and that an Irish Press employee could confirm the time. The Court based its finding on the worker’s submission. Top Security was not represented at the Court’s investigation.
