In 1989, the Labour Court did not recommend the Amalgamated Engineering Union’s claim for a 10% differential for 39 technical supervisors at Airmotive Ireland Limited. The recommendation was signed on 18 September 1989. The union argued the supervisors’ technical skills and responsibilities justified extra pay. Airmotive said supervisory duties were comparable across grades and the differential would break the common pay scale applied to all supervisors. The Court declined the claim for that reason.
