The Labour Court recommended that the Automobile, General Engineering And Mechanical Operatives Union accept the Department Of Defence’s £900 offer to a boilerman at McKee Barracks who lost shift pay and overtime after being redeployed following a boiler conversion. The recommendation was signed on 27 April 1989. The union had sought about £9,000, saying the worker’s annual earnings loss was £1,336. The Department estimated the loss at about £994 and made the £900 offer. The worker’s separate claim relating to two days’ annual leave was withdrawn at the hearing.
