In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that Henry Denny & Sons (Ireland) Limited and Irish Transport And General Workers Union accept an Industrial Relations Officer's package, amended to include a £125 company payment instead of £85. The recommendation was signed on 3 April 1989. The dispute covered pay terms, breaks and the factory shop facility. The Court also recommended that the union accept the existing voucher system for employees buying company products. The union opposed reduced breaks and sought restoration of the shop; the company cited productivity concerns and said vouchers were a reasonable alternative.
