In 1989, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Transport And General Workers Union’s claim for compensation for three workers who lost shift and weekend premiums after the heating system at Nenagh Hospital changed from turf to oil. The recommendation was signed on 13 January 1989. The union sought compensation for the workers’ earnings losses. The Mid Western Health Board cited severe financial constraints and said the workers had remained employed after the change. Having considered the submissions and the Board’s financial position, the Court did not recommend conceding the union’s claim.
