In 1988, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding a Group Of Workers claim against Johnston, Mooney And O'Brien Limited for increased redundancy compensation for eight former employees. The recommendation was signed on 22 December 1988. The Court said terms agreed for different employees in different circumstances could not be extended retrospectively. The workers had accepted voluntary redundancy terms confirmed in April 1984; the employer argued that the later package could not be applied to that earlier agreement.
