In 1988, the Labour Court recommended compensation for 13 University College Dublin electricians who lost Saturday overtime. It set the amount at 2.5 times the annual loss, payable in two equal instalments on 1 December 1988 and 1 April 1989. The recommendation was signed 4 November 1988. Electrical Trades Union had sought £2,500 for each electrician. The college said annual overtime earnings would fall by about £460 per electrician and cited a 50% cut in maintenance overtime spending. Payment was conditional on the union accepting the college's fire-alarm testing proposals.
