In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that Dun Laoghaire Vocational Education Committee pay arrears to two full-time and 28 part-time kitchen attendants, finding they were entitled to retrospective pay parity from 6 March 1982. The recommendation was signed on 19 September 1988. The Federated Workers’ Union of Ireland sought parity with kitchen attendants at the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee. The Court noted that the groups were on equal terms and that the Dublin attendants had received an equality award. It recommended that the arrears due be paid as soon as possible.
