In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that Kildare Street And University Club pay a worker the equivalent of two weeks’ wages and provide a more favourable reference after she disputed her dismissal. The recommendation was signed on 16 September 1988. The worker said she had not been warned or reprimanded before receiving one week’s notice on 1 June. The Club said she was a poor timekeeper, was often away from her work area and was unlikely to improve. Having considered the parties’ submissions, the Court recommended two weeks’ wages and a reference amended in more favourable terms.
