In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that The Body Shop recognise and negotiate with the Irish Distributive And Administrative Trade Union over the terms and conditions of workers it had organised at the company’s Henry Street branch. The recommendation was signed on 16 September 1988. The union sought improvements in pay, holidays, overtime, sick pay and other conditions for five employees. The Body Shop said it preferred to deal with staff individually and was not prepared to discuss the issues with the union. The company did not attend the hearing. The Court recommended recognition and negotiations over the organised workers’ terms and conditions.
