The Labour Court did not recommend the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's claim for pay parity for three maintenance staff at the Gresham Hotel. Its recommendation was signed on 23 August 1988. The union sought parity with the hotel painter and electrician, who each received an additional £20 a week. The hotel said those payments reflected extra duties and responsibilities during a refurbishment. The Court accepted that explanation and recommended that the parties discuss a broader range of duties for the three claimants in return for a corresponding pay increase.
