Labour Court recommends redundancy analysis at Roadstone

The Labour Court recommended an immediate analysis of clerical work in Public Bodies after considering a claim by the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union on behalf of nine workers at Roadstone Limited. The recommendation was signed on 28 July 1988. The Court did not find that Roadstone had breached its procedural agreement by not replacing staff who left voluntarily, in the absence of a specific instance of intimidation. It also found clerical assistance was not warranted at Huntstown or in Wages, and found no evidence that clerical staff were singled out for harsher redundancy treatment in Public Bodies. The Court recommended the longest possible notice if further redundancies occurred, to allow an analysis of affected jobs. It also said the distinction between clerical and executive grades had become blurred and was a source of grievance for clerical staff.
