In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that Carlton Productions Limited implement the Programme for National Recovery wage terms from 1 January, following the Federated Workers' Union Of Ireland's claim under the 27th Wage Round. The recommendation was signed on 7 July 1988. Carlton Productions said falling record sales, financial difficulties and a three-day week left it unable to pay. The Court recognised the company's difficulties but said implementation would not be an insuperable burden given staff co-operation.
