In 1988, the Labour Court recommended that Royal Liver Friendly Society reduce its agents' cover period to six years for recovery of commission on policies that lapsed or were surrendered. The recommendation was signed on 10 May 1988. The Federated Workers' Union Of Ireland sought a shorter period while retaining the existing 21-times payment. The society proposed four years with revised commission rates. The Court recommended reducing the cover period to six years rather than changing the rates, during which lapses or cash surrender values would trigger full recovery of times paid.
