Labour Court backs Peamount Hospital redeployment proposals

In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that the Federated Workers' Union Of Ireland accept Peamount Hospital management's proposals to redeploy two workers, but did not recommend further special payments for their loss of earnings. The recommendation was signed on 12 December 1987.

Automation had reduced the need for full-time boilerhouse work. The union said the workers were boilermen and sought compensation, estimating an annual loss of about £4,000 for each. The Court said it lacked enough documentation to determine whether they were designated general operatives or boilermen. It accepted that redeployment was the best available option and that management had tried to cushion the earnings loss.
