Labour Court recommends union accept Chesterton sick-pay offer

By Rory Hanlon

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court recommended that the Amalgamated Engineering Union accept Chesterton Industries B.V.’s offer to extend sick pay from four to six weeks, pending agreement on a way to address unwarranted absenteeism. The recommendation was signed on 11 December 1987. The union had sought ten weeks’ net pay and removal of the waiting day. Chesterton opposed those changes, saying that a more generous scheme could increase absenteeism.
