Labour Court recommends acceptance of Smiths Engineering Limited wage offer

In 1987, the Labour Court recommended that Smiths Engineering Limited’s wage offer be accepted in the 26th wage round. It did not recommend conceding the Group of Unions’ evening-shift claim. The recommendation was signed on 10 December 1987. The parties were Smiths Engineering Limited and the Group of Unions (A.E.U., I.T.G.W.U., N.E.E.T.U.). The Court also said discussion of the I.C.T.U. report’s proposals should wait until the company was securely established as an independent unit.
