In 1987, the Labour Court recommended placing two clerical workers at Community Games on the minimum point of the Civil Service Clerical Assistant scale from 1 January 1988, with progression on the scale thereafter. The recommendation was signed on 3 November 1987. The Irish Transport and General Workers' Union sought pay parity with Civil Service clerical officers, arguing the workers’ duties were comparable and their pay was low. Community Games said it could not afford parity and that the work differed in standard and content.
